Penn State Scranton recently welcomed two new staff members to the campus community — Meghan Cruciani, who is the new associate director of academic advising, and Cameron Nielsen, who will serve a one-year appointment as reference and instruction librarian.
Penn State Scranton Students Services and Engagement Director Brad Kovaleski recently earned his doctorate in organizational learning from Gannon University in Erie, after successfully defending his dissertation, “Exploring University Employee Perceptions of Engagement.”
Rob Notari, system administrator in Penn State Scranton's Information Technology department, has been named the August Employee of the Month by Chancellor Marwan Wafa.
Penn State Scranton’s music program recently received another big financial boost from the Schwartz Mack Foundation. The foundation awarded the program with a $7,500 grant that can be used for programming and other needs over the next year.
Students looking to enroll at Penn State Scranton for spring/fall 2020 can do so starting Aug. 1 to be considered early-action applicants, giving them more time to begin and complete their applications. Those who complete the application by Nov. 1 will receive an admissions decision by Dec. 24 and get notice of their student aid package in mid-February, giving them more time to sort out their financial position.
Phuong-Truc Pham, associate professor of chemistry at Penn State Scranton, was the recipient of the Faculty Endowed Research Award, which is awarded annually by the Greater Scranton Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association.
Penn State Scranton honored its existing Ridge View Society members and inducted new members into the society at a special celebratory dinner last month. Each year, the Ridge View Society Dinner recognizes donors who have committed more than $10,000 to Penn State Scranton.
Nineteen students in the 2019 PaSSS cohort traveled to St. Francis of Assisi Soup Kitchen in downtown Scranton, where they volunteered at its Client Choice Food Pantry and Free Clothing Store. They were joined by Michael Evans, assistant chief academic officer and associate teaching professor of nursing, and Maripat O’Donnell, part-time lecturer in sociology.
Penn State Scranton recently held its most recent round of Diversity Circles with participants that included campus students and staff members, as well as local community members. The Diversity Circles are overseen by trained facilitators and are meant to foster a more inclusive perspective among participants.
UGI Utilities Inc. has made a long-term commitment to Penn State Scranton through its recent establishment of a $100,000 Open Doors Scholarship for campus students.
