Penn State Scranton took home a Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce 2019 SAGE Award for the interior renovations recently completed on the first floor of Dawson. The campus was one of three finalists in the Interior Renovations category. Other finalists were Tobyhanna Army Depot and The Wright Center for Community Health.
On Sunday, Dec. 8, the campus’ three musical ensembles — Penn State Scranton Chorale, Roc[k]tet and Campus Jazz Band — presented their annual Holiday Concert at Grace Bible Church. On Wednesday, Dec. 11, the groups will perform their annual on-campus Holiday Concert at noon in The View Café.
Penn State Scranton is once again hosting a series of fun-filled, relaxing events for Stress Busters Week, which will take place Dec. 9-13. Events will feature massage, pet therapy, aromatherapy and other relaxing and other meditative activities designed to relieve stress. Several campus areas will also be offering free refreshments and healthy snacks to give students the extra boost they might need.
Kara Stone, assistant teaching professor of English at Penn State Scranton, recently organized an opportunity for students in her Literature and Society course to attend the annual Royden B. Davis, S.J., Distinguished Author Award dinner honoring Madeline Miller, held at the University of Scranton.
More than 400 members of the community came out to see Penn State Scranton’s three musical ensembles — Penn State Scranton Chorale, Roc[k]tet and Campus Jazz Band — present their annual Holiday Concert last weekend. Another concert is scheduled for Dec. 11 in campus' View Cafe so faculty, staff and students can enjoy some holiday cheer.
The Human Development and Family Studies Community Club at Penn State Scranton hosted its third and final Educational Awareness Luncheon with a special presentation on dementia and Alzheimer’s disease by Janet Melnick, HDFS program coordinator and associate teaching professor in HDFS. The presentation, given last month, was to commemorate National Alzheimer's Disease Month.
The Penn State Scranton Alumni Society and the Greater Scranton Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association were both lauded for their good works at the Penn State Alumni Association’s annual Fall Alumni Council Volunteer Awards banquet.
Penn State Scranton has added three community leaders to its Advisory Board and elected a new chair and vice chair, Chancellor Marwan Wafa announced. New members are Michael Rescigno, Nancy Sarno de los Rios and Jahan Tabatabaie.
Continuing their longtime commitment to Penn State Scranton, campus alumni David and Ann Hawk have established the Hawk Family Foundation Open Doors Scholarship for students participating in the RaiseMe, Pathway to Success: Summer Start (PaSSS) or Complete Penn State programs.
