For Penn State Scranton students looking to enhance their academic experience outside of the classroom, there is no better investment than the campus Learning Center, located in the David and Ann Hawk Student Success Center in the lower level of the Study Learning Center. To promote its services, the Learning Center is hosting a series of informational sessions during the first month of the fall semester.
This fall’s scholarly communications and copyright workshop slate will include in-person workshops at Penn State Behrend, Penn State Scranton and Penn State Harrisburg, as well as a full set of Zoom workshops, including our popular trainings on complying with public access policies from federal agencies. There are specialized workshops for thesis and dissertation writers, instructional designers and scholarly authors.
Throughout the semester, Penn State Scranton's Counseling Services will host special events focused on a variety of relevant issues, from suicide awareness to self-defense to fitness-based wellness. The events came out of a poll conducted with the campus community last year regarding what types of counseling and wellness programming they wanted to see made available.
Sarah Tichenor, administrative support assistant in the campus' Learning Resource Center, has been named the Employee of the Month for September by Penn State Scranton Chancellor Marwan Wafa.
Students returned to Penn State Scranton this semester to find a campus community that’s now more accommodating to their schedules. In an effort to be better attuned to the needs of students, the campus has extended the hours of operation for several of its facilities.
Penn State students who commute to campus or live in on-campus apartments have a convenient option for grabbing a meal or a snack: the Commuter Meal Plan. The plan, which is charged to the student account, has recently been expanded to three levels and is now offered at additional Penn State locations.
Penn State Scranton recently welcomed two new staff members to the campus community — Meghan Cruciani, who is the new associate director of academic advising, and Cameron Nielsen, who will serve a one-year appointment as reference and instruction librarian.
Penn State Scranton Students Services and Engagement Director Brad Kovaleski recently earned his doctorate in organizational learning from Gannon University in Erie, after successfully defending his dissertation, “Exploring University Employee Perceptions of Engagement.”
Rob Notari, system administrator in Penn State Scranton's Information Technology department, has been named the August Employee of the Month by Chancellor Marwan Wafa.
Penn State Scranton’s music program recently received another big financial boost from the Schwartz Mack Foundation. The foundation awarded the program with a $7,500 grant that can be used for programming and other needs over the next year.
