Penn State Scranton's students, faculty and staff came together on Martin Luther King Jr. Day to honor the life of the civil-rights icon, assassinated more than 50 years ago. The fifth annual MLK Day Luncheon and Excellence in Diversity Awards celebrated the efforts of the campus and community to continue to work toward King’s dream of a more racially and socially just America.
On Friday, Jan. 24, the campus' Community Events Series will present the educational program, “Telling and Understanding Anthracite’s Unique Story,” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Hawk Lecture Hall of the campus’ Business Building at Penn State Scranton.
Michael M. Evans, assistant dean for undergraduate nursing education at the Commonwealth Campuses and associate teaching professor of nursing in Penn State University’s College of Nursing, has been named the Penn State Scranton Alumni Society’s 2019 Alumnus of the Year. Evans will be honored Thursday, Feb. 20, at a special reception beginning at 7 p.m. in the campus’ K. Bruce Sherbine Lounge, in the Study Learning Center.
Penn State Scranton continued its commitment to bolstering the technological capabilities of its faculty at the campus’ sixth annual Faculty Development Day. Held earlier this month in the campus' new Information Sciences and Technology Active Learning and Innovation Lab, the program featured three presentations geared around evolving technologies now available to faculty.

Continuing their longtime commitment to Penn State Scranton, campus alumni David and Ann Hawk have established the Hawk Family Foundation Open Doors Scholarship for students participating in the RaiseMe, Pathway to Success: Summer Start (PaSSS) or Complete Penn State programs.
Penn State Scranton has added three community leaders to its Advisory Board and elected a new chair and vice chair, Chancellor Marwan Wafa announced. New members are Michael Rescigno, Nancy Sarno de los Rios and Jahan Tabatabaie.
