Camp Registration Deadlines
Payment and participant forms are due prior to the start of camp. Camps have limited enrollment and often fill quickly. Registering for a camp early will help ensure that a camp is not cancelled due to insufficient enrollment.
Camp Cancellations by Penn State
The University reserves the right to cancel any camp due to insufficient enrollment or for other unforeseen circumstances. If a camp is cancelled, registrants will be notified immediately and registration fee refunds will be processed. Please note that the University cannot be held responsible for any other costs, charges, or expenses.
Registration Cancellations and Refunds
If you need to cancel a registration, we require written notification via email to [email protected] a minimum of 7 days before the start of the program. A $35 administrative fee will be charged for each cancellation. Refunds will not be issued after the start of the program.
Camp Staff Background Checks and Training
All Penn State youth programs have policies in place to ensure the safety of youth participating in our programs is not compromised. All Penn State Summer Youth instructors/aides/volunteers are required to have a current Pennsylvania State Police background check, Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, and to go through training on an annual basis about their responsibilities, including safety and security procedures. For more information, view the Information for Parents web page.
Minimizing Exposure to Transmissible Illness
It is expected that parents will adhere to the following policies in order to mitigate the spread of transmissible illnesses:
- It is my and my child’s responsibility to practice basic health, safety, and sanitation measures to avoid contracting or spreading transmissible illnesses.
- My child will not attend camp if they are symptomatic of any commonly spread transmissible illness.
Physical Access
Penn State encourages individuals with disabilities to participate in its programs and activities. If you anticipate needing special accommodations or have questions about the physical access provided, please contact the Center for Business Development and Community Outreach at 570-963-2600 or email [email protected] prior to the start of camp.
Non-Discrimination
Penn State is committed to equal access to programs, facilities, admission, and employment for all persons.*
This equal access is extended to all participants of university sponsored youth programs. The needs of any participant in a youth program will be discussed privately with that child’s parent/legal guardian on a case-by-case basis with the goal of promoting a safe environment and quality experience.
The Pennsylvania State University encourages qualified persons with disabilities to participate in its youth programs and activities. If you anticipate needing any type of accommodation or have questions about the physical access provided, please contact Jo Ann Durdan by email at [email protected] at least 14 days in advance of your participation or visit.
BHT/TSS/Support Workers
Please notify our office at 570-963-2600 immediately if a BHT/TSS/Support Worker will be accompanying your child. TSS/Support Workers accompanying a child will need the following:

- Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance Form (CY‑113)
- Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check (Criminal History Report)
- Completion of the Penn State-Reporting Suspected Child Abuse training.

Medications
Medications will be collected at check-in (must be in original pharmacy container labeled with the participant’s name, medicine name, dosage, and timing of consumption. OTC medications must be provided in the manufacturer’s container), and parents will submit the Daily Medication Log. Contact 570-963-2600 to request a medication log.
Medications collected will be kept in a lock-box that will be with the lead counselor at all times during the camp. Counselors will not administer ANY medications to campers; campers must self-administer the medication. Counselors or other staff are prohibited from buying or providing any type of medication including over-the-counter medications (Tylenol, Advil, cough medicine, etc.) Please review the attached information for full details. If you have a medication that requires refrigeration, please notify our office at 570-675-9253. We ask that, if possible, to refrain from making any significant adjustments to your child's prescription the week before attending camp, as we want your child to be able to have the best experience possible!
First Aid and Medical Emergencies
Penn State personnel and/or instructors may only wash cuts, apply non-latex band-aids and apply ice packs. Parents will be contacted if any injury requires medical attention. If any medical emergencies arise, the instructor will call 911.
Emergency Alerts
Parents/guardians may sign up for emergency alerts via social media at PSUAlert. PSUAlert is Penn State's official emergency alerts system. To check on campus status go to: scranton.psu.edu.
Smoking and Tobacco Use
Penn State policy states that smoking and tobacco use is not permitted in campus buildings or on the property. The policy does allow smoking and the use of tobacco inside closed personal vehicles that are parked on Penn State property. See Penn State’s tobacco-free policy if you have any questions.
Confidentiality
For safety reasons, the University cannot release the names and/or phone numbers of other participants, even to those who wish to carpool.
Drop-Off and Pick-Up
You will receive a registration confirmation email prior to the start of camp containing specific information about the camp including drop-off and pick-up information.
Daily Check-Out: Children will ONLY be dismissed by the instructors/program aides. This is a very busy time. For security reasons, please make sure you notify the instructor that you are taking your child. If you have not already filled out the drop-off/pick-up information on the camp application and someone other than the parent/guardian is picking up your child, you MUST complete a Consent to Release Child to Another Person form and give it to Allison Karpinski or Jo Ann Durdan prior to the start of camp. If a camper has to leave camp before the designated time, you MUST complete the Early Dismissal Permission Slip.
**Parents/guardians and others authorized to pick up your child/children MUST show proof of ID before the child will be released**
Lunch and Snacks
Students enrolled in a full-day of camp should bring a packed lunch. Please note that we do not have the capability to heat or refrigerate lunches. All lunch periods are supervised by Penn State staff.
Snacks and beverages are not provided. However, campers are welcome to bring their own snacks and/or beverages, which may be eaten during breaks scheduled by the instructors.
Sports Camps
Every day, each camper attending a sports camp should bring a drink with his or her name or initials written on it. Appropriate attire should be worn.
Photography and Cell Phones
We respect our campers’ right to privacy, and some parents do not give permission for photos to be taken of their children while at camp. Photography (including selfies) and other imaging on digital devices is prohibited while attending camp, including during lunch and break periods, and in restrooms or other areas where privacy is expected by participants.
Cell phones may not be used during camp or special sessions. If a parent needs to contact their child during camp for any reason, they may contact our office at 570-963-2600.
Illness
Please call 570-963-2600 if your child is not able to attend camp due to illness or any other circumstance.
