When the COVID-19 pandemic hit earlier this semester, Penn State Scranton found itself not only dealing with the challenges of switching to remote delivery of classes and services, but also an increase in student need.
With the spring semester officially over, it is now time for many in our campus community to start looking ahead to the 2020-21 academic year — and that includes students. One group of students who were thinking a year ahead even as the spring semester was in full swing, were those involved with the Student Government Association, particularly the newly elected officers who will lead the SGA over the next year.
After successfully transitioning to remote delivery for the final half of the spring semester, Penn State Scranton is well positioned through the hard work of faculty and staff to continue the practice during the summer.
Kim Stout-Kramer, a 2020 graduate of Penn State's Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) program, was recently recognized by the Honors Student Recognition Program of the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR).
This past semester, corporate communication students got an opportunity to film and edit a video of a Family Business Alliance event, “If These Walls Could Talk,” a presentation by members of the Dempsey family, owners of the local companies Dempsey Uniform & Linen Supply and DxDempsey.
The Penn State Scranton campus community had reason to celebrate earlier this spring despite all of the challenges and changes the COVID-19 pandemic has caused when Assistant Director of Student Services and Engagement Matt Nied and his family welcomed their newest addition, Colby Robert Nied.
Brianna Lowry, a registered nurse in Pennsylvania, decided to help another state in need and now works in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in New York City. "This pandemic is challenging as a nurse in every way possible," she said, but shares a message of hope for her colleagues. "I know this is the most difficult thing we’ve seen, but keep going. You are making a difference."
Emily Glodzik, financial assistant in Penn State Scranton's Finance Office has been named the campus' June Employee of the Month by Chancellor Marwan Wafa.
When Penn State switched to remote delivery of its courses due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Penn State Scranton faculty had to rapidly transition how they would teach their classes for the remainder of the spring semester. Thanks to a helping hand from the IT department, who provided training and technology assistance, and a positive attitude, they were able to meet the challenge.
