Penn State Scranton is currently seeking nominations for its Excellence in Diversity Awards, which will be presented at the sixth annual MLK Day Celebration honoring the life and work of civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. The virtual ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, on Zoom. This year’s theme is “Love and Truth.”
Penn State has released updated COVID-19 dashboard results for the week of Nov. 27 to Dec. 3 and weekend testing results from Dec. 4 to 6. The dashboard will continue to be updated on Tuesdays and Fridays through the end of the fall semester.

Penn State has decided to delay the start of in-person classes and transition to a fully remote learning environment for the beginning of the spring 2021 semester at all campus locations. This decision was made following extensive analysis and scenario planning given worsening virus conditions nationally and across the state indicating predictions of rising hospitalization rates in the coming weeks.
The PSUAC Executive Committee voted unanimously to cancel all intercollegiate athletics competition for fall and winter team sports during the 2020-21 academic year. The sports affected by this decision include men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, and volleyball, at Penn State Beaver, Brandywine, DuBois, Fayette, Hazleton, Greater Allegheny, Lehigh Valley, Mont Alto, New Kensington, Scranton, Schuylkill, Shenango, Wilkes-Barre and York.
Since retiring from Penn State Scranton in 2017, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of English and Comparative Literature Philip Mosley has maintained a busy schedule of research, writing and service to the campus via occasional event programming. Penn State Scranton will honor the enduring legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. while recognizing the campus’ own commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion with a virtual presentation of its sixth annual MLK Day Celebration on Monday, Jan. 18. The campus is also partnering with the Greater Scranton MLK Day Commission in hosting a nationally known guest speaker prior to its event.
The Penn State northeast region campuses will host a spring 2021 Virtual Program Series featuring topics ranging from movie promotion, chocolate and family business, NASA, forensics, bingo, children’s books, the entertainment industry, current weather and nature. The programs are open to the public and will be held in the evening throughout the spring.
Penn State Scranton Associate Professor of English Kelley Wagers set out to create an innovative course that gives students across the academic spectrum the opportunity to explore and practice compassionate communication during a health crisis. During the fall semester, Wagers taught Communicating Care, an integrative general education course she designed with input from a medical ethics expert at Penn State College of Medicine and some campus colleagues.
