International Students

Are you interested in studying in the U.S.?

We know that researching colleges and universities and planning to leave your own country can be difficult. At Penn State, we offer high-quality academics, as well as the support services you need once you arrive in the U.S.

First-Year International Applicants

We will review your academic performance in the context of your home country’s educational system and make sure that you have the necessary background to study at Penn State University.

We look for students who have successfully completed high school coursework or examinations in the core subjects of mathematics, physical science, social science, and language in all years of high school. Students who have not successfully completed these courses may not be eligible for admission to Penn State.

The application process for first-year international students includes a comprehensive review, focusing on all required credentials of the application.

Transfer International Applicants

If you already completed some college coursework, we welcome you to apply as a transfer student to Penn State University. International students have to meet the transfer requirements for their intended program and campus of interest.​The application process for transfer international students is based on the student’s post-secondary coursework.


English Language Proficiency

International students whose native language is not English must submit proof of English language proficiency. U.S. citizens and permanent residents are not required to provide proof of English language proficiency, regardless of native language.
