Application Process for International Students

All international students who would like to apply to Penn State Scranton for undergraduate admission must provide the following information and required documentation at some point during the application process.

Before you apply:

Step 1: Establish a valid email address

Penn State requires a current, valid email address, as that is our primary means of communication with international students. To ensure deliverability, make Penn State (psu.edu) an eligible sender to the account.

Step 2: Create a My Penn State Profile

MyPennState is where future students can establish a Penn State ID and password, and access the online application. (NOTE: International students should use the MyPennState application process. International students should not use the Coalition application to apply to Penn State.)

Use the name that appears on your passport. (In the U.S., the family name is usually referred to as the last name, and the given name is referred to as the first name.)

Learn how to create a MyPennState profile.

Step 3: Review Important Deadlines

While you can create a MyPennState profile at any time, the application for admission becomes available on the following dates:

  • Fall/Summer Admission: August 1
  • Spring Admission: June 1

Review important dates and deadlines for international students.

How to Apply:

Step 4: Start Your Application through MyPennState

Once you have your login information, you can sign in to MyPennState and begin work on your online application. You can save your application at any time during the application process and return later to complete it.

Step 5: Submit Your Application

The application requires a nonrefundable application fee of $75 for international students and is finalized at the end of the application process. How is this paid? Do they need a credit credit card??

Step 6: Check Your Application Status

Once your application is submitted, you can verify that it is complete by accessing your MyPennState profile. We will communicate with you via MyPennState and through a series of emails regarding the missing items for your application. Once all application requirements have been met, you will see a status in MyPennState confirming the completion of your application.

After you apply:

Step 7: Receive Your Admission Decision

Once we have reached a decision regarding your application, we will update your status in MyPennState and provide a printable PDF of your decision letter.

Step 8: Make it Official - Become a Penn Stater

Login to MyPennState and accept our offer in order to officially become a Penn State student.

Step 9:  Complete Accepted Student Steps

Visit our Accepted Students web page to review the next steps for obtaining your student visa and enrolling at Penn State.
