DUNMORE, Pa. — Penn State Scranton Chancellor Marwan Wafa has announced that Antonia Cerda-Bevan, academic adviser in the Hawk Student Success Center, is the campus’ Employee of the Month for April.

In nominating her for this recognition, Associate Director of Academic Advising Meghan Cruciani praised Cerda-Bevan for her exceptional dedication to student success.

“Antonia consistently goes above and beyond to provide our students with the best and most supportive experience. Students are always greeted by her bright smile and infectious energy. She provides a supportive and welcoming environment to all and will do whatever is needed to assist with any problem or find the answers to any question,” Cruciani said. “Antonia has spearheaded Advising Week for the past two years, and it has been a great success. She took the initiative to not only create and advertise the events, but to make sure that every detail was meticulously completed. She helped to inform students of the importance of meeting with an advisor and registering in a timely manner, which is very important to student progress and for also for our campus community.”

Cruciani emphasized Cerda-Bevan’s compassionate approach to addressing the needs of students, families, and colleagues alike.

“Antonia helped to onboard our newest adviser last year and helped her to acclimate to the complicated Penn State systems and processes. She is always willing to help with any duties, questions or concerns, no matter how large or small. When dealing with parents and families, Antonia treats all with the same respect and compassion,” she said. “We often have family members reach out with anything from general questions to difficult concerns. These parents and families are always treated with the same empathy and compassion, while also maintaining the balance of informing them of University policies and procedures. She helps parents, families, students and colleagues all feel supported and valued.”

Reflecting on Cerda-Bevan’s impact, Cruciani noted her role as a key ambassador during New Student Orientation (NSO), where her enthusiasm sets a positive tone for incoming students and their families.

“As you know, we welcome both students and families to attend NSO, and there is no better greeter than Antonia. Her contagious enthusiasm is one of the first things they see, and they are immediately comfortable and excited for their day," Cruciani said. "She shares this same sparkling attitude with peers, colleagues, and students every day. She is an integral part of our collegial experience and welcoming work environment.”

Congratulations, Antonia!

The Employee of the Month recognition was initiated in 2016 by Wafa as a way of distinguishing staff members who “go above and beyond the call of duty” in serving Penn State Scranton. Campus staff, faculty, and students are encouraged to nominate staff members for the recognition of going “above and beyond.”
