New Student Orientation is an interactive event open to all new students and their families designed to introduce them to Penn State University resources and student services at Penn State Scranton.
New Student Orientation topics include:
- Review of academics at Penn State
- Information regarding advising and course scheduling
- Financial aid and billing
- Student services
Complete these steps before attending a New Student Orientation:
- Access your NSO Task List
- Determine your course placement. Take the ALEKS Math Placement assessment if required, available in your LionPath student account
When is New Student Orientation?
Find out when to attend the first part of your new student orientation!
- First Year Students - Check your NSO task list for NSO dates that are planned throughout the Summer.
- Transfer Students - You will receive information regarding optional in-person or virtual NSO sessions. Please check the email you provided in your Penn State application for additional details as well as your registration link.
Scranton Welcome
Don't miss the second part of new student orientation on August 22, 2025!
Scranton Welcome is a student-only event designed to help you get to know people and become comfortable with the transition to college life prior to beginning classes on August 25, 2025.
You’ll have the opportunity to meet and interact with fellow students, faculty and staff, and we’ll provide you with important information about the University and the Scranton campus. This is the initial First Year Seminar for the 2024 Fall semester and students are expected to attend. Student ID will be required
- New students should log into VZO and follow their NSO task list to register for Scranton Welcome.
