DUNMORE, Pa. — Penn State Scranton Chancellor Marwan Wafa has announced that maintenance and operations worker Karla Smith is the campus' January Employee of the Month.

In nominating Smith, Maintenance Supervisor Dave Bichler wrote: "Karla’s dedication to cleaning and maintaining our buildings is a very important part of our campus operation. Karla is very efficient and considerate to everyone, which, along with her detail to cleanliness, makes her a valued employee. Karla truly is Penn State proud."

Print center staff assistant Brent Wilson added: "Karla Smith is a hard working, energetic and optimistic-minded employee who is a pleasure to work with. She has a cheerful outlook on life that continuously expresses itself in every aspect of her work. She goes out of her way to greet everyone she encounters and she devotes an extraordinary amount of time and effort to not only her job duties, but also to beautifying the campus beyond what is expected of her — exemplified most recently by her holiday-themed decorating of the Dawson Building hallways and doors. Karla is an exemplary employee whose passion and commitment makes the campus a more welcoming and friendly place for students, staff and visitors alike."

Congratulations, Karla!

The Employee of the Month recognition was initiated in 2016 by Wafa as a way of distinguishing staff members who "go above and beyond the call of duty" in serving Penn State Scranton.

Campus staff, faculty and students are encouraged to nominate staff members that deserve to be recognized for “going above and beyond.” The link for nominations can be found here.
