Integrative course examines importance of empathy in health communication

Penn State Scranton Associate Professor of English Kelley Wagers set out to create an innovative course that gives students across the academic spectrum the opportunity to explore and practice compassionate communication during a health crisis. During the fall semester, Wagers taught Communicating Care, an integrative general education course she designed with input from a medical ethics expert at Penn State College of Medicine and some campus colleagues.

MLK Community Event 2021 The Penn State Scranton campus is a community partner for the Greater Scranton MLK Commission's annual MLK Day Community Event, which will take place Jan. 18 at noon on Zoom. Also open to the general public, the free event will feature a talk by Penn State alumnus and former NBA player John Amaechi, now an organizational psychologist, internationally known public speaker and bestselling author. Penn State alumni offer virtual program series in spring 2021

The Penn State northeast region campuses will host a spring 2021 Virtual Program Series featuring topics ranging from movie promotion, chocolate and family business, NASA, forensics, bingo, children’s books, the entertainment industry, current weather and nature. The programs are open to the public and will be held in the evening throughout the spring.

Penn State Scranton will honor the enduring legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. while recognizing the campus’ own commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion with a virtual presentation of its sixth annual MLK Day Celebration on Monday, Jan. 18. The campus is also partnering with the Greater Scranton MLK Day Commission in hosting a nationally known guest speaker prior to its event.
