College of IST recognizes outstanding faculty and staff

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — On May 17, the College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) celebrated the achievements of faculty and staff over the past year with a presentation of annual awards. Held at the Nittany Lion Inn, 10 staff and faculty members were recognized, along with seven retirees and 17 length-of-service awards.

Those recognized included:

Faculty awards

  • Excellence in Outreach and Engagement in Scholarship — Frank Ritter, professor
  • Junior Faculty Excellence in Research Award — Jessie Li, assistant professor
  • Senior Faculty Excellence in Research Award — Jack Carroll, distinguished professor
  • George J. McMurtry Junior Faculty Excellence in Teaching and Learning Award — Jessie Li, assistant professor
  • George J. McMurtry Faculty Excellence in Teaching and Learning Award — Steven Haynes, senior lecturer
  • Junior Fixed-Term Faculty Excellence in Teaching and Learning Award — Alison Murphy, lecturer
  • College of IST Excellence in Teaching Award — Fred Aebli, instructor, Penn State Worthington Scranton

Staff awards

  • Customer Service Award awarded — Shannon Johnson, assistant director of IT
  • Rising Star Award — Betty Jo Houser, administrative support assistant, graduate programs
  • Dean’s Circle of Excellence Award — Lisa Lenze, director, Undergraduate Academic Affairs
