Penn State Scranton Chancellor Marwan Wafa has named Mary Runco, administrative assistant in the campus' Nursing Department as the campus' Employee of the Month for June.
DUNMORE, Pa. — Mary Runco, administrative staff assistant in the campus' Nursing Department has been named the Employee of the Month for June by Penn State Scranton Chancellor Marwan Wafa.
Staff members in both the Academic Affairs and Nursing departments nominated Runco, stating: “Mary is a wealth of knowledge and personality, with a smile for everyone she meets. She is dedicated to her position, as well as the University, which is reflected in her work. When Mary sees a need for help, she readily does what she can to assist even if not directly related to her job responsibilities."
Citing a recent example, they said, "Recognizing the great need for volunteers for the recent Undergraduate Research Fair, Mary did not hesitate to step right in to help for the evening. Mary always is a friendly smiling face and is a caring and dedicated co-worker who possesses the desire to aid others. She is the first contact of anyone who walks through the doors of the Nursing Department. Mary extends her vast knowledge, support, and enthusiasm for student success in every facet of nursing education from day to day. From countless responsibilities ranging from coordination with hospitals regarding clinical access requests to maintaining administrative responsibilities for both the Nese College of Nursing and the campus, as well as ongoing departmental operational work, Mary provides the highest level of support to ensure success of the department.

The Employee of the Month recognition was initiated in 2016 by Wafa as a way of distinguishing staff members who "go above and beyond the call of duty" in serving Penn State Scranton.
