Campus alumnus EJ Long poses for a photo in the new Veterans Lounge at Penn State Scranton with retired dean of students Pat Rose

Alumnus and veteran E.J. Long, at left, credits fellow veteran Patrick Rose, at right, who was dean of students at Penn State Scranton when he arrived at the campus, for inspiring him to apply himself to his studies and get the grades he would need in order to move on to University Park. Now a successful business owner, Long has given back to the campus, creating a Veterans Lounge for student veterans, and reunited with Rose during a recent visit to the campus.

Campus alumnus E.J. Long, at left, a U.S. Coast Guard veteran, receives a Nittany Lion Shrine statue from Penn State Scranton Chancellor Marwan Wafa in appreciation for a gift he made to establish a new Veterans Lounge in the campus' Study Learning Center. The Lounge is a quiet, private space for those students who are veterans now working on their college degrees and needing a quiet, private space to study or take a break.

Penn State Scranton alumnus gives back to student veterans

Penn State Scranton alumnus and U.S. veteran E.J. Long committed $20,000 for a Veterans’ Lounge in the campus' Study Learning Center. The lounge is a quiet, private space for those students who are veterans now working on their college degrees and needing a quiet, private space to study or take a break from their classes and the daily grind, where they can relax and decompress.
