1+2+1 Nursing Program

Jersey College has partnered with Penn State Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing and Penn State Scranton to offer a 1+2+1 nursing program.

This partnership enables students to begin their nursing education at Penn State Scranton for year one, attend Jersey College for years two and three, and return to Penn State Scranton for their fourth year.

Graduates of this program will receive a Penn State bachelor of science degree in nursing. To qualify, current students must express interest in the program during their second semester at Penn State Scranton.

How the 1+2+1 nursing program works:

Year 1
Students will attend Penn State Scranton for the first two semesters of the program, carrying 16 credits for semester one and 16 to 17 credits for semester two. Before or during their second semester at Penn State Scranton, they will need to apply to Jersey College for their RN program. Students must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Year 2 and 3
Upon successful completion of their first two semesters, students will then attend Jersey College and obtain an associate degree in Nursing over the next two years.

Jersey College will provide a scholarship of 10% of the tuition cost for those students entering the program with at least a 3.0 GPA. Jersey College will waive the entrance exam if students have a GPA of 3.0 after the first 12 credits at Penn State or have an SAT of 990 or higher or an ACT of 19 or higher.

Once students complete two years at Jersey College, they will be eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam to obtain their RN license. After successfully passing the licensure exam, students will re-enroll at Penn State Scranton by contacting the Registrar.

Year 4
The last year of the 1+2+1 nursing program continues at Penn State Scranton with students taking their final nursing courses as part of the RN to BSN program either at Penn State Scranton or through the Penn State World Campus. Students in the program will have advanced standing and participate in clinicals as a student of Penn State Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing.

This program is designed to provide a smooth pathway to future nurses who want to obtain their BSN degrees.

With various offerings of the college’s RN to BSN option, a full cohort of 10–15 students is required to deliver the necessary courses at Penn State Scranton. If a full cohort is not achieved, interested applicants can still take advantage of this pathway by enrolling in general education courses at Penn State Scranton with the remainder of their nursing courses being delivered online through Penn State World Campus.
