DUNMORE, Pa. — During GivingTuesday 2022 on Nov. 29, Penn State Scranton will fundraise for its campus student athletics programs, aiming to use new gifts to cover common expenses such as equipment, travel and event needs.

“Our student-athletes proudly represent the Scranton campus in the PSUAC (Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference) throughout the state and the nation,” said Paul Moyer, Penn State Scranton director of athletics and recreation. “And while the University provides a great deal in resources to fund the athletics programs, it cannot cover all the costs for a top tier program. This year we have a goal of $5,000 that will be used for enhancing athletics facilities and purchasing additional equipment for teams and for team events — including culture building events, spring break events and local community events,” said Moyer.

GivingTuesday 2022 marks the eighth celebration of GivingTuesday — a global day of philanthropy — with over 155 featured campaigns showcasing fundraising priorities across the commonwealth. The event officially begins Monday, Nov. 28, at 6:55 p.m. and runs until midnight on Tuesday, Nov. 29. However, individuals can participate early by becoming a campaign champion and creating a personal fundraising page to benefit any active GivingTuesday campaign, or making their gift early.

“Fundraising efforts in the past have improved the experience for the student-athletes with gear, travel and equipment,” said Paul Krzan, Student Athlete Advisory Council president, men’s cross country team member and third-year IST major. “It has also allowed us to better connect with the community by helping us livestream most of our athletics events. All in all, these gifts inspire us to perform better!”

GivingTuesday is an opportunity to encourage philanthropy and recognize the critical role alumni and friends play in the University community. The event encourages Penn Staters to give back and support future generations of leaders and visionaries. Updates on fundraising progress can be found at givingtuesday.psu.edu. With the record-breaking success of “A Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence,” which raised $2.2 billion from 2016 to 2022, philanthropy is helping to sustain the University’s mission of education, research and service to communities across the commonwealth and around the globe. Scholarships enable Penn State to open doors and welcome students from every background, support for transformative experiences allows students and faculty to fulfill their vast potential for leadership, and gifts toward discovery and excellence help serve and impact the world.
