Not all plastic waste that makes it way to the shoreline are large pieces; here, one can see the large amount of smaller, broken down pieces and particles of plastic that now pollute some of the coastal areas where Bishop-Pierce was doing her research.
This coral reef, also found in the waters near the coastline of Split, Croatia highlights the variety and beauty of marine life that can be found in these areas.
Fortunately, not all waterways have fallen prey to pollution from humans. This waterfall in the Krka National Park, is very clean water feeding into the coastal habitat.
Garbage, including a large quantity of plastic from Slovenia and Italy, have made their way to this area in Croatia, where Dr. Renee Bishop-Pierce was doing research this summer.
