Student CARE & Advocacy

Some students may experience a variety of challenges during their college career. Student Care & Advocacy coordinates efforts with campus partners to assist students who encounter challenges at Penn State. Support resource areas include basic needs and support, academic concerns, health and wellness, and finances.

Complete the online CARE Report Form to refer for a student experiencing distress of an academic, health, safety or financial nature.

Behavioral Threat Management

Penn State's Behavioral Threat Management Team takes our student's safety and and well being seriously. By recognizing and reporting behavior you believe to be a potential concern, you can help our students get the assistance and services they might need. If you think a student is exhibiting concerning behaviors and you would like to anonymously report a concern, please submit the Behavioral Threat Management Team Referral Form.

Please include as much detail as possible. Anonymous reports will be investigated thoroughly, however, additional information may be needed to take appropriate action.

Who Can Refer a Student?

Faculty and Staff

Faculty and staff are often the front-line individuals able to identify students in need of support before anyone else.  Please use a referral form above, to make the Early Alert team aware of a student who you suspect may be in need of academic, health, or social intervention. You can also utilize this referral form to report an incident that occurred during a classroom or office interaction.

If your concern is related to academic performance, please raise a flag via the Starfish system in addition to your referral to the Early Alert team.

Peers and Family Members

Friends and family members often observe changes in students’ behavior long before faculty or staff.  If you have observed a concerning behavior with a student, please complete a referral form above. The Early Alert team works collaboratively with support services across campus and in the community to provide guidance to students and address the issues of concern.
