Information Sciences and Technology Minor

The Information Sciences and Technology minor is designed to expose students not majoring in IST to the cognitive, social, institutional, and global environments of Information Sciences and Technol-ogy and to teach them to apply that knowledge as a supplement to their major. Through this program, students can gain the theoretical frameworks and skill sets necessary to compete and be productive in the information technology-intensive global context that defines the new "Information Age."

  • IST 140: Introduction to Application Development (3)Prerequisite: A grade of ā€œCā€ or better in MATH 21 or placement above the level of MATH 21 in the math placement test
  • IST 234: (COMM 234) Digital Cultures (GS) (3)*
  • IST 235: (WMNST 235) Gender & the Global Information Technology Sector (US) (3)*
  • IST 250: New Media & the Web (3)*Recommended Preparation: IST 110
  • IST 301: Information & Organizations (3)Prerequisite: IST 210, IST 220
  • IST 302: IT Project Management (3)Prerequisite: IST 210, IST 220

  • IST 445: Globalization Trends & World Issues (3)*Recommended Prep: 6 units of honors coursework
  • IST 452: Legal and Regulatory Environment of Privacy & Security (3)Prerequisite: IST 432
  • IST 453: Legal, Regulatory, Policy Environment of Cyber Forensics (3)Prerequisite: IST 110 and 6th-semester standing or higher

Applying for the IST Minor:

  • Students wishing to declare a minor must use UPDATE ACADEMICS through Lion-PATH.
  • Intent to pursue a minor may be declared after the student has achieved at least third semester classification (29.1 credits) or has been accepted into his/her major, but prior to the end of the late drop deadline of the student's final semester.
  • A grade of C or better is required for all courses in the minor.
  • At least six (6) credits of the minor must be unique from any other degree or minor earned by the student.
