Penn State Worthington Scranton's table tennis team took third place in the National Collegiate Table Tennis Association's (NCTTA) Fall Divisional Tournament's co-ed division earlier this month in Philadelphia.
The first and second place winners were Penn State, University Park (first) and the University of Pennsylvania (second).
Team members Matthew Acevedo, Satyam Patel, Jason Cruz, Markos Tetonis, Nat Tan and their advisor, Dr. Asif ud-Doula, traveled to the University of Pennsylvania in downtown Philadelphia on Nov. 14 for the competition.
Dr. ud-Doula, PSWS assistant professor of physics, is actually a table tennis enthusiast. Several years ago, he started the table tennis team at Penn State Worthington Scranton.
The PSWS team will compete in another tournament on Jan. 23 in State College. The winner of that division will qualify for the Mid-Atlantic Regionals in February, where they will go up against teams such as Duke and the University of North Carolina.
Qualifying teams from that even can then go on to the Nationals, which take place in Texas in March.
