Penn State Worthington Scranton opened the doors to the Dawson Building, the campus' first building, in August, 1968.  In 1969, the first class of associate degree candidates received their Penn State degrees from the school, which was then known as The Pennsylvania State University Worthington Scranton Campus.

In May, 1969, 52 young men became the first graduating class from the new campus, receiving their associate degrees.  On Friday, 21 members from that original graduating class were in attendance at the Commencement, processing behind this year's graduates and attending a special 40-year reunion on campus.

"We are very proud of our graduating students and we congratulate them on their accomplishments and hard work," said Dr. Krogh-Jespersen.  "We wish them all the best life has to offer as they leave here to pursue their futures, and we are confident that they will be successful because we have provided them with a strong and solid foundation on which to build those futures."

Introducing commencement speaker Dr. Richard Fitzsimmons was Attorney Dante A. Cancelli, vice chairman of the campus' advisory board. Louis Ingargiola, Penn State Worthington Scranton Alumni Society offered the alumni charge to the university's newest alumni.
