Penn State Worthington Scranton's library recently welcomed two new employees.
Joseph Fennewald, BA, MSW, M.A., is the new head librarian at Penn State Worthington Scranton, where he will oversee all of the campus library's staff, resources and operations.
A Scranton resident, Mr. Fennewald received his bachelor of arts degree in sociology from the University of Missouri at Kansas City, a Master of Social Work from the University of Kansas, School of Social Welfare, and his Master of Arts in Library Science from the University of Missouri's School of Library and Informational Science.
He most recently served as the head librarian at Penn State Hazleton, and prior to that served as reference librarian and evening coordinator at the University of Scranton's Weinberg Memorial Library.
The current president of the Pennsylvania Library Association, which is the fifth largest state library association in the country, he is also a member of the American Library Association, where he currently serves on its Chapter Relations Committee; the Association of College and Research Libraries; and is a past president of the Association of College and Research Libraries, Delaware Valley Chapter.
Mr. Fennewald is also one of four PSU Fellows to the 2009-10 CIC Academic Leadership Program and a campus library representative to the search committee for the Dean of University Libraries and Scholarly Communications.
He was also named a Penn Stater of the Quarter at Penn State Hazleton, received the New Librarian Honors Award from the PA Library Association and is a member of Beta Phi Mu (International Library Science Honors Society) and Kappa Delta Pi (International Honors Society in Education).
Two years ago, he spent a five-month sabbatical in Tianjin, China, where he taught at the Tianjin University of Technology.
Tierney Lyons has been hired as the new reference librarian at Penn State Worthington Scranton.
A native Hamlin and an alumna of Penn State Worthington Scranton, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in comparative literature from Penn State University, and her Master of Library Science from San Jose State University in San Jose, CA.
Prior to her new position at Penn State Worthington Scranton, she worked as Head of Reference and Research Services at the University of Maryland's Health Sciences and Human Services Library in Baltimore, where she had also served as liaison to the School of Medicine. She has been a librarian at Penn State Wilkes-Barre and at Moravian College in Bethlehem.
Ms. Lyons has served on the University of Maryland's Institutional Review Board for Human Research Protection and is a recipient of the NLM Fellowship in biomedical informatics at the Marine Biology Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA.
She currently serves on the Penn State Worthington Scranton's Student Honors Program Committee and maintains membership in the Medical Library Association and its Mid-Atlantic Chapter.
She resides in Scranton's Hill Section.
