DUNMORE, Pa. — Starting college can bring a mix of excitement and nerves, and student leaders play a key role in helping first-year students navigate that transition. As part of Penn State Scranton’s efforts to welcome the class of 2029, it is introducing its New Student Orientation (NSO) Program leaders through a series of Q&As.

Q: Why did you choose Penn State Scranton?

Quimby: I originally planned to go to a different Penn State campus, but when I had a sudden move, Penn State Scranton said it was simple to transfer me to their campus. The next day I was at NSO

Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to new students?

Quimby: Get involved as much as you can! It really does have an impact.

Q: Why should new students get involved on campus?

Quimby: You can't say you did something until you actually lived it. Getting involved in any club, organization or sport goes a long way in creating relationships, building trust and getting crucial leadership experience.

Q: What’s one must-have item or life hack for surviving your first year of college?

Quimby: Cords, all the cords, you may not need a charger, but you will definitely find someone who will.

Q: What’s been your favorite Penn State Scranton memory so far?

Quimby: Too many memories but any leadership experience with my Student Government Association peers.

Q: How has being an NSO leader impacted your college experience?

Quimby: Being an NSO leader has had a surprising impact on my leadership and social skills.

Q: What’s one thing you wish you knew before starting college?

Quimby: I wish I knew how quick it takes to get involved, I thought it was a long process but as long as you show interest, you're getting involved on this campus.
