Worthington Scranton and Northampton Community College Announce Partnership

Officials from Penn State Worthington Scranton (PSWS) and Northampton Community College (NCC) announced on Tuesday that they have formed an educational partnership to offer a bachelor's degree in business to NCC students looking to attain a four-year degree.

Officials from both colleges provided details of the program during a public announcement at NCC's Monroe County campus in Tannersville.

The business degree partnership targets NCC students pursuing a two-year, business administration degree.

PSWS officials worked with NCC to develop a special transfer process for these students to ensure that the transfer process is as easy, and efficient, as possible, said John Drake, PSWS director of continuing education. "Students starting at NCC, but who know they want to pursue a four-year business degree, can now plan ahead to do so when they first register at NCC as freshmen, saving them time and money in the process."

"Everyone involved in developing this new program are very excited about its future potential, particularly for the students who opt to take advantage of it," said John Drake, director of continuing education at PSWS.

"After completing their first two years of college at Northampton, many of our students transfer to four-year colleges to complete their bachelor's degrees," said Heidi Butler, NCC spokeswoman. "We are delighted Penn State Worthington Scranton is reaching out to them through this partnership."

The business administration program is one of NCC's most popular and can currently be completed at either the main, Lehigh Valley or Monroe County campuses. The program is also available through online learning.

Officials at both schools worked on a special student transfer guide for NCC business administration students and business program coordinators have been named at both schools.  They are: Dr. Michael Michalisin, PSWS business program coordinator and professor of management; Denise Francois-Seeney, NCC interim dean of business and technology; and Karen Britt, NCC assistant professor of business.

Accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (a national organization), NCC's Business Administration Program provides a cost-effective springboard for transfer to a four-year institution in the fields of accounting, business, economics, finance, marketing, and business administration.

Penn State Worthington Scranton is one of Penn State University's 19 Commonwealth Campuses and presently offers eight bachelor's degrees, six associate degrees and a master's degree.  The 45-acre campus located in Dunmore presently serves about 1,400 students, as well as offering adult education, youth camps and academies, professional development and certificate programs through its Continuing Education Department
