On Friday, Aug. 19, Penn State Worthington Scranton held its 18th convocation ceremony and freshman orientation. Faculty, staff, current students, and administrators were on hand to welcome the incoming Class of 2015 as they began their college careers. A total of 295 students attended the convocation and orientation activities, which were deemed a huge success by organizers.
After registering, students assembled in the campus' Multi-Purpose Building, where they were greeted and heard remarks by Dr. Mary-Beth Krogh-Jespersen, Chancellor; Dr. Molly Wertheimer, interim Director of Academic Affairs; Ms. Sharon Toman, Senior Instructor in Music, and the 2011 recipient of the PSWS Advisory Board Award for Teaching; and James Graham III, Student Government Association President.
Students then were briefed by campus on all aspects of college life at Penn State Worthington Scranton -- from academics to financial aid to getting involved in campus groups, clubs and athletics. The informational session was followed by an outdoor barbecue lunch before students set out to meet independently with their program advisors.
Matthew Nied, Assistant Director Unions, Programs & Student Activities, thanked all those at Worthington Scranton who were involved with the event and had a hand in making it the tremendously successful event it was, from start to finish.
