Dr. Philip Mosley, professor of English and comparative literature, has been invited to judge the 18th annual, national full-length poetry book competition held by Bright Hill Literary Center in Treadwell, New York.
Dr. Mosley, who read from his own work at Bright Hill in April 2012, will choose a winner and four runners-up from a shortlist of 20 to 25 unpublished volumes and will introduce the winner at Bright Hill in 2013.
He is the author of several literature translations, including Bruges-la-Morte by Georges Rodenbach; The Intelligence of Flowers, along with a related piece, Scents by Maurice Maeterlinck; October Long Sunday by Guy Vaes; Tea Masters, Teahouses by Werner Lambersy; and Francois Jacqmin's The Book of the Snow.
Dr. Mosley is also known locally for his work as editor of Anthracite! An Anthology of Pennsylvania Coal Region Plays, a collection of six plays about the coal mining industry and the injustices and hardships of regional mining life.
Bright Hill is an independent not-for-profit corporation founded in 1992. It is dedicated to increasing audiences' appreciation of the writing arts and oral traditions that comprise American literature, and encouraging and furthering the tradition of oral poetry and writing.
