Michael Narcavage, manager of corporate development for Chesapeake Energy, has been selected as the Penn State Worthington Scranton Alumni Society's Alumnus of the Year for 2012.
A 1995 graduate of Penn State with a bachelor's degree in Administation of Justice, he has been active with Penn State Worthington Scranton as a member of the Alumni Society, the Greater Scranton Penn State Chapter, and as a member of the campus' Advisory Board and several of its committees.
He is also a lifetime member of the Penn State Alumni Association and a member of the Nittany Lion Club.
Mr. Narcavage has been a guest speaker for the campus' Business program, taken part in the annual Alumni Speed Mentoring event to provide career advice and insight to current and graduating students, spoken to prospective students at the campus' Fall Open House, and participated in the Society's annual golf tournament.
In his current position, he serves as the liaison between Chesapeake Energy and the PA Department of Transportation and the Department of Environmental Protection, as well as with educational institutions, workforce development agencies and elected officials.
He has provided public education and outreach to inform the public about the advantages of natural gas exploration and is the point person for the company's Natural Gas Vehicle project in Northeastern PA.
Earlier in his career, he was Northeast State Director for former Sen. Rick Santorum (1997 -2007), where he spoke for the senator at public events, press conferences and public hearings, and received input from constituents, following up with correspondence to agencies and individuals. He also developed grant seminars for a variety of municipal and community entities.
Prior to joining Chesapeake energy, he was the manager of Archbald Borough, where he was responsible for negotiating union contracts; managing weekly municipal meetings and special town hall and public meetings; drafting and overseeing the borough's annual $3.6 million budget; cultivating and maintaining relationships with federal, county and state elected officials; and writing press releases and editing the borough newsletter.
