Student Recognition Awards

In the life of Penn State Scranton, there are special individuals who have enriched the academic fabric of our campus by establishing awards to recognize accomplishment in select disciplines and/or student leadership and service. 

The contributions of these very special people are highlighted at the Annual Honors Reception or Student Recognition Dinner held each Spring.

Student Recognition Dinner Awards

The Greater Scranton Penn State Chapter Pride of Lions Award                                                     
The purpose of this award is to honor and recognize the achievements of an undergraduate student who shows exceptional character, perseverance, enthusiasm, and distinguished performance and, through outstanding example or involvement, has enhanced student life at Penn State Scranton. It was established by the Greater Scranton Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association.

The Patrick J. Rose Award for Excellence in Student Leadership and Service
The purpose of this award is to honor and recognize outstanding achievement by an undergraduate student who has completed at least two semesters at Penn State Scranton. 

It was established by alumni Atty. Dante Cancelli, Dr. Darlene Dunay, David and Ann Hawk, Patrick Shevlin, and Dr. Peter Bordi in honor of retired campus Director of Student Services, Patrick J. Rose.

Honors Reception Awards

Evan Pugh Scholar Award

Recognizes University juniors and seniors who are in the upper 0.5 percent of their respective classes and have completed at least 48 graded Penn State credits at the end of the fall semester of the academic year in which the award is given.

President Sparks Award

Recognizes University students carrying a 4.0 GPA
through the first semester of their sophomore year.

President Walker Award

Recognizes University students carrying a 4.0 GPA for the first semester of their freshman year.

Outstanding Peer Tutor Award

This award recognizes student peer tutors committed to providing extraordinary service to students and the campus community in support of student success.

Outstanding Research Scholar Award

This award recognizes a student who has demonstrated excellence in scholarly research.

Outstanding Creative Accomplishment Scholar Award

This award recognizes a student who has demonstrated excellence in creative accomplishments.

Michael and Stephanie Evans Nursing Grant

This award is presented to nursing students who have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and have a demonstrated financial need. These funds are directed to costs associated with the Assessment Technology Institute (ATI) testing requirement for nursing students.

Morgan and Ann Marie Evans Award in Nursing

This award is presented to a nursing student who has completed between 70 and 100 credits, is enrolled for a minimum of six credits, has a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and has a proven financial need.

Mary-Beth Krogh-Jespersen Science Award

This award honors and recognizes outstanding achievement by an undergraduate student of junior academic standing and is enrolled at Penn State Scranton and is majoring in Science.

Richard and Lois Ostroski Family Award for Adult Learners

This award honors and recognizes outstanding achievement by an adult learner who has obtained the highest GPA upon completion of his/her freshman year.

Patrick J. and Mary Jane Sheridan Award for Excellence in Business

This award honors and recognizes outstanding achievement by an undergraduate student who is enrolled at Penn State  Scranton, and who has achieved the highest GPA in the Financial Services Option of the Bachelor of Science degree in Business.

Tabatabaie Family Award for Math and Science

This award recognizes full-time undergraduate students at Penn State Scranton majoring in a math or science degree program, who are at least 2nd semester freshman and have a minimum GPA of 3.2.

The Walter Weber Memorial Award in Theatre and Speech Communication

This award honors and recognizes an outstanding student with an overall minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher and has excelled in theatre or speech communications courses at Penn State Scranton. It was established by friends and colleagues in memory of Walter Weber who taught these disciplines at the campus.

Honors Program Certificates

Recognizes student members of the campus Honors Program, which was established to broaden and enrich the education of outstanding students at the Penn State Scranton Campus, by offering a wide range of academic, social and cultural activities.

Academic Excellence Awards

Academic Excellence Awards are awarded to students who have demonstrated
outstanding academic achievement in their individual disciplines, and were nominated by faculty members of each discipline.
