Deborah Brandt Johnson, alumni & development specialist at Penn State Worthington Scranton, was recently honored at Penn State's spring Alumni Council meeting with the Karen and Lewis Gold Penn State Alumni Association Staff Recognition Award.
The university-wide award recognizes staff members whose actions demonstrate devotion to the Penn State Alumni Association's mission and objectives, whose performance is marked by professionalism and responsiveness, and who exhibits initiative, leadership, and organizational skills. Ms. Johnson is only the third recipient of this award and the only recipient from a Penn State commonwealth campus.
In her current role, Ms. Johnson is responsible for overseeing campus alumni programs and initiatives and coordinating annual campaign fund raising efforts through the University Relations Department.
She has been employed at the campus since 1995, and had previously managed the campus' public information and media relations.
During her tenure at the campus, she has received numerous awards, including Penn Stater of the Quarter Award, the Award for Excellence in Administrative Service, the David & Joyce Mack Tressler Professional Development Award, and the Gertrude Hawk Chocolates Service Award.
As a past advisor to the campus Lion Ambassadors she was instrumental in establishing one of the first student-funded endowed scholarships at Penn State Worthington Scranton.
She currently is the advisor to Worthington Scranton's Blue and White Society, which works to enhance student life while establishing a foundation for lifelong commitment to the University, and represents the student membership of the Penn State Alumni Association.
She holds a bachelor's degree in communications from Bloomsburg University, with an emphasis in public relations, advertising and journalism.
She resides in Fleetville, with her husband Dave and two sons, Matthew and Eric.
