Campus business program adds accounting option

In response to a recognized growing need in regional and national industries, Penn State Worthington Scranton was granted approval by the University to offer an accounting option as part of its Bachelor of Science degree in Business.

The new option is now one of three available to business students at the campus, joining financial services and management/marketing.

Efforts to add the program began in the 2011-12 academic year, in response to campus Advisory Board recommendations and accounting being listed as a 'high priority occupation' by both the University and campus executives, said Dr. Charles Patrick, the campus' chief academic officer.

The process to add the option included a University review to ensure that the campus could meet the new option's resource requirements in terms of facilities and faculty, he explained.

The accounting option will be available this fall and will prepare students who take the new option to work in a variety of occupations and industries that require accounting skills and background.
