Volunteer Opportunities

Give Back to Your Community

Volunteering allows you to connect to your community and make it a better place. Dedicating your time as a volunteer also helps you make new friends, expand your network, and boost your social skills.

At Penn State Scranton, we understand the importance of volunteerism so we offer a number of ways for our students to get involved and contribute to the community. We welcome opportunities to help make our communities stronger while building student connections and skills.

Volunteer and Service Opportunities

All Penn State students can check out the service opportunities in Engage to view upcoming volunteer events. Some of the organizations where students assisted in the past include:

  • Friends of the Poor
  • Gino Merli Center
  • Greater Carbondale YMCA
  • Griffin Pond Animal Shelter
  • Keystone Mission
  • St. Francis of Assisi Soup Kitchen
  • Steamtown Marathon
  • United Neighborhood Center
  • United Way

Service in Student Clubs

We have 21 recognized student clubs and organizations on campus that have committed to volunteering and serving in our community. Here are a few of the places where our student organizations have donated their time and effort:

  • Campus Food Pantry
  • Campus Pediatrics Fair
  • Dunmore Daycare Center
  • Four Diamonds Foundation
  • Greater Scranton YMCA
  • Samaritan Purse
  • Shree Swaminarayan Mandir
  • St. Stanislaus Cathedral

Volunteer during your Spring Break

Penn State students looking to volunteer and make a difference while enjoying time off from school can take part in what has become known as Alternative Spring Break. An alternative spring break allows students to serve their community in a meaningful way and meet new people while doing it.
