After the Job Interview

After the Job Interview...your work is not over!

Getting a job is a job. No ifs, and, or buts about it. There are no shortcuts. However, there are certain actions you can take to shift the scales to your side and to increase your marketability and your chances. Consider the following:

Immediately following the interview, or within a day or so, you should take the time to handwrite a thank-you letter conveying sincere thanks for being invited to interview, perhaps mentioning something you learned during the interview, that you are still very interested in the job, and that you hope to be considered for the position. Not as many people do this as you might think, so be a smart networker, and write that thank- you letter!

Don't take it personally if employers don't get back with you promptly. The interview and decision-making process sometimes takes a long time. If you haven't heard back from an employer, don't pine away- be an active job seeker and contact the company to inquire about the status of your file, and re-iterate your sincere interest in the position.

If the employer does not offer you a job but asks you to call or come to the office for another interview, be sure to follow-up. If the employer suggests a lead for a job with another company, follow-up the lead promptly
