Cyber security is more important than ever, with government and private sector networks being exploited at an unprecedented scale. As these threats grow, the cyber workforce needs to understand and protect the critical components upon which the economy, government, and national security are built.

The Cyber Security certificate program provides students with a foundational knowledge of vital cyber aspects, including operations, laws, and policies. All classes are taught by practicing professionals who have prestigious certifications, subject expertise, and a wealth of real-world experience, ensuring you’ll learn important, hands-on lessons.

Cyber Security Program Objectives

Students will complete the cyber security training program with a deeper understanding of cyber operations, laws, and policies. The program will also help prepare students to sit for the Certified Information Systems Security Professions (CISSP) exam.

The Cyber Security certificate is comprised of three required courses and one optional prep course. Each course, delivered online via Zoom, can be taken individually but if you're working towards the certificate you'll need to progress through the course from the beginning.

  • Foundations of Cyber Operations - SWENG 5179
  • Principles of Cyber Law and Policy - SWENG 5178 
  • Cyber Risk Management - SWENG 5180
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) Exam Preparation - SWENG 5172 

A certificate and digital badge will be awarded upon completion. Badges can be digitally displayed online to recognize attaining a new level of knowledge.

Students should have an understanding of the roles of the three branches of the United States government and basic Constitutional concepts. Knowledge of networks is also helpful.

Continuing Education Units

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are awarded based on a standard of one unit per ten (10) hours of classroom contact.
