Art Minor

The Art Minor is created for the advancement and integration of visual arts across various domains. It offers students the opportunity to explore their interests in art and design with a more focused path to incorporate these skills into broader academic pursuits. 

Each student will elect an area of concentration from one or more of the following options at the Scranton campus: ceramics, drawing painting, and sculpture. Students may have the option to take photography online.

Minors at Penn State require a minimum of 18 credits and typically no more than 21 credits.

Prescribed Courses:

At least six credits of the minor must be from the prescribed courses.

  • Art 110 - Ideas as Visual Images
  • Art 111 - Ideas as Objects

Additional Courses:             

Select 3 additional credits of the following:

  • Art 211 - Introduction to Digital Art and Design Criticism
  • Art 296 - Independent studies

Supporting Courses:

Students must take 9 credits within one or more of the following areas of concentration: Ceramics, Drawing and Painting, Sculpture, or Photography (online). These 9 credits must include 3 credits at the 300-level and 6 credits at the 400-level.

  • Ceramics 300
  • Drawing and painting 400
  • Ceramics 400
