Penn State Scranton musical groups hosting holiday concerts

The Penn State Scranton Chorale, Roc[k]tet and Jazz Band will host a free Community Holiday Concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at Grace Bible Church, which is located adjacent to campus. The groups also will perform at the annual Campus Holiday Concert at noon on Wednesday, Dec. 5, in The View Café on campus.

The Penn State Scranton Chorale, Roc[k]tet and Jazz Band made their debut at Grace Bible Church in 2016, performing during its holiday Live Nativity event. This year, the musical groups will be hosting their own free community Holiday Concert at the venue, which is located adjacent to campus. The event is taking place on Sunday, Dec. 9. It is open to the public and free of charge.

Regional Penn State alumni offer 'A Night of Penn State Jazz'

Penn State alumni representing four northeast regional campuses will be offering “A Night of Penn State Jazz” at the Alice C. Wiltsie Performing Arts Center, 700 North Wyoming Street, Hazleton, on Sunday, Oct. 21. The concert, featuring Penn State’s Centre Dimensions jazz ensemble, will begin at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for general seating.

According to Marko Marcinko, Penn State School of Music’s director of jazz studies, one of the biggest challenges as an educator is relaying the importance of rehearsal time. “You cannot just talk about it,” he said. “You must work the craft in practice and in performance. Only then can you achieve expertise.”

Alumni to offer 'A Night of Penn State Jazz' Oct. 26 in Wilkes-Barre

Penn State alumni representing four northeast regional campuses — Hazleton, Schuylkill, Wilkes-Barre and Worthington Scranton — will be offering “A Night of Penn State Jazz” on Oct. 26 at the F.M. Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre. The concert, featuring Penn State’s Centre Dimensions jazz ensemble, will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Worthington Scranton Chorale and Jazz Band takes their show on the road

Penn State Worthington Scranton's Annual Spring Concert will take place at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, at The Theater at North, 1539 N. Main Avenue, Scranton. The event is free and open to the public.
