PSWS student Brian Escobar's research project, "The Effect of Grit on College Students’ Academic Self-Efficacy and Performance: The Role of Gender" took first place in the Social Science category at the 2017 Undergraduate Research Fair at Penn State Worthington Scranton. His faculty adviser was Dr. Raymond Petren, assistant professor of HDFS. Research is an important component for students in the major and prepares them for both their future career fields, as well as graduate school.

Dr. Marwan Wafa presented retiring PSWS Director of Development with the K. Bruce Sherbine Penn State Proud Award during the campus' annual awards ceremony. The award is given to an individual that has positively impacted students and employees and contributed to the prestige and well-being of PSU.
