There are some important guidelines when presenting your project. Foremost, all presenters who will be attending the zoom sessions should dress professionally.
Posters: (Judged)
Students will not be required to give an oral presentation for the judging of their poster projects during the online Web Showcase. However, students will have the opportunity to join Zoom sessions to discuss their projects, if desired.
The following "oral" and "special requirements" components for poster presentations and judging are applicable to an on-campus fair only.
- Be present at your project. Posters without a presenter will not judged.
- Prepare a five-minute oral presentation describing your project to the judges or other interested guests.
- Presentation must not exceed five minutes; judges will be instructed to observe this time limit. Note: A videotape or demonstration cannot be submitted for the discussion.
- Description should be clear and concise, and should include the major points presented on the poster.
- In cases where the student worked with collaborators, including his or her adviser, the presentation should clearly describe the student's role in the overall project.
Review poster requirements and instructions.
Special Requirements:
- Students who need special equipment (such as a computer) will be accommodated to the best of our ability; but it is up to the student to make us aware of this need as soon as possible.
- A computer will NOT be allowed in the poster presentation unless it is actually necessary (such as projects that involve development of a computer program).
- Students are required to generate a poster for their presentation but may use additional equipment (such as laptop computer) to actively demonstrate software programs as part of the presentation.
- Students may not use a computer simply to enhance the presentation of material that can be adequately displayed on the poster.
Students who wish to keep their projects should take them down at the end of the fair and take them away.
Oral Presentations: (Judged)
For the Web Showcase, the oral presentations will be scheduled via Zoom.
- Each member of a panel should be prepared to give a 10-minute version of your research essay or research presentation. (The research fair organizers will create panels based on common topics or disciplines.)
- Presenters should explain the topic you researched, including the how and why. (Describe your research project in an interesting way, explain the argument you developed through research, provide enough evidence to support your claims, suggest an impact or outcome of your project.)
- Written text adapted for a listening audience or speaking from an outline or PowerPoint slides is encouraged.
Written Work for Creative Exhibition: (Not judged)
For the Web Showcase, readings of creative writing will be scheduled via zoom. Students will attend a Zoom session to present their creative work.
- Prepare a 5-to-7 minute reading of your creative writing, including poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction.
- Readers may prepare a few words of introduction to explain your larger project, but your focus should be on reading and sharing your creative writing.
Arts & Creative Exhibition: (Not judged)
For the Web Showcase, Arts & Creative Exhibition will be showcased on the website. Students are welcome to attend a scheduled zoom session if they would like to explain their artwork and creative exhibit, but this is not a requirement. If you would like to be included in a zoom session, please indicate so on the submission form.
- Prepare to explain the technical and conceptual aspects of your artwork in a 3-to-5 minute presentation.
